About Me

landscaping for the fun of kids

My name is Amelia - welcome to my blog! I am the mother of four very active boys ranging from 9 years to 3 years. When I am making improvements around my home and my property, I try to focus on how I can make those improvements while keeping things fun for the kids. This past year, I worked with a landscaper to create an outdoor environment that was fun for the kids, but looked nice from the road. I wanted the landscaper to design some elements into the yard that the kids could limb around on and let their imaginations run wild without having to worry about things getting destroyed in the process.

Three Ways To Utilize Rock In Your Landscape

Landscaping is a vital part of your home. There will be more people that see the outside of your home than the inside. The type of landscape that you have says a lot about you and your personality. A well landscaped yard looks pretty, but it also can have utility as well. With so many options and designs available it can be hard to decide what to do with your landscape. Here are three different ways to utilize rock in your landscape. Rock can be used in many different ways and there are many different types of rock to choose from.

Fire Pit

One of the best ways to utilize rock in your landscaping plan for your home is to have a fire pit installed. There is nothing like roasting marshmallows and making s'mores in your own backyard on a Friday night. A fire pit can be created out of almost any rock you can think of, and you will be able to find a rock that matches your personality and the style of your home. Fire pits add a great deal of utility to your landscape but they also can be absolutely beautiful. Just a word of caution, be sure to know your local laws on fire pits.

Walkways and Flower Beds

Often a home is going to have cement around the home utilized in different ways. Consider using rock or stone anywhere that you would have used cement. The walkway to your front door is a great place to replace cement with rock. Another way to utilize rock is to create your flower beds using rock or stone. Your pathway and flower beds will add variety to your home and can be very pretty when created with different kinds of rock.

Retaining Wall

If you are really looking to add variety to your home, you can use a retaining wall. A retaining wall built out of rock or stone adds a great deal of character to the home and can look spectacular. Retaining walls are especially nice when paired with a home that may have a big yard with considerable slope. The retaining wall built out of rock is going to help maintain the integrity of the yard, but it will also allow water to drain much better than cement walls will. You can built a large or small retaining wall, since either is going to look great.
